Yesterday I went to see if Evans L. was still open. It was completely frozen and birdless though. So I checked the Mahoning River from Struthers to Lowellville, as this is the only open water for waterbirds in my area during winter. It held Canada geese, mallards, 2 ring-necked ducks, c. goldeneye, 14 hooded mergansers, and a great blue heron. Nearby in Poland Twp. I saw a red-tailed hawk w/crows at a deer carcass. In Coitsville Twp. were 6 wild turkeys and a red-shouldered hawk. Craig Holt, Lowellville
