I have been checking out Sims Park in Euclid and Wildwood SP in Cleveland recently. It seems since the ice came last weekend and extended out into the lake I haven't seen the Black Scoters since 12/10/10 and that was at Euclid Park near the senior center. On 12/19 besides the 250-300 Red-breasted Mergansers, 5 C. Goldeneye that were slightly visible beyond the ice at Sims Park I only saw one Scoter species land for five minutes and then fly west as visibility was too far for me. At the Wildwood Marina on 12/19 when I was coming up from the east end of the marina a Peregrine Falcon crossed through the parking lot quickly (from the Neff Rd area - stirred up some birds in the marina and flew back where it came from and then returned and flew west. On 12/24 at Sims Park all the ice was gone except near the beach. I saw approx 25 Common Goldeneye and few RB Mergansers. On 12/25 at Sims Park there was again a lot more ice east of the pier towards the
apt bldgs with approx 21 Goldeneye and an adult Bald Eagle flying east. Today 12/26 at Wildwood SP Marina there was an adult Bald Eagle being harassed by a gull above the parking lot and fisherman ice fishing in the marina. Also at Sims Park today 12/26 there was still some ice to the east and the open water had more rippled ice crystals in it. There were approx 25 Goldeneye, 5-6 Bufflehead, 50-70 Red-breasted Mergansers and a Peregrine Falcon flying east to west along the shoreline quickly with the strong winds.
