Late yesterday afternoon, driving through the cemetery, I found almost
70 juncos feeding in
the grass under the gum trees.

A small flock of pine siskins (20) was zipping from tree top to tree
top, before
settling in on the gum trees, hanging onto the seed pods, like so
many
bobbling ornaments.

The crow mob was gathering at the golf course adjacent to the
cemetery. Hundreds and hundreds of
crows. I took the time to count them a few days ago, as they flew in,
and got well over 1000.

Didn't see the merlins, but the crows were dominating their usual
haunts and had most likely
disturbed them. I saw one on my previous stop, shredding dinner, on
it's perch by the oil tanks.
