Island Road quarry has become a good local "watering hole" with most area
still-water areas now frozen. This morning's aggregation included:
Canada Goose - 1000+/-
SNOW GOOSE - 1 immature white phase
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE - 5
TRUMPETER SWAN - 13
Am. Black Duck - 10-20
Mallard - 300-500
N. Pintail - 1-2
Green-winged Teal - 2
Redhead - 1
Common Goldeneye - 1
Am. Coot - 12-15
Although BALD EAGLES are regular visitors (right next to the Scioto - I've
seen as many as 3 at one time here), none were present today. However,
between the quarry and grasslands further north on Island Rd., the following
raptors were seen:
N. Harrier - 2
Red-tailed Hawk - 2
Am. Kestrel -1
Happy Birding!
