Haven't heard much from those who are in search of the January 100. I do
see that Doug Vogus has reached it. Last night I got a Barred Owl for
#100. And that after making three trips to Cleveland area for clean-up
stuff. Thanks to Craig Caldwell for the head's up at Eastlake. The
Bonaparte's Gull and Red-breasted Merganser had eluded me until Friday.
Also had 2 first-cycle Glaucous Gulls there on Friday but had observed one
on the 9th at 72th Street.

In checking my records, this is, at least, the 16th year in a row that I
have reach 100. Vic Fazio dragged me into this back in the mid-90's. I
have been sucked in every year since. Some years have been really tough and
others very easy. This was not one of the easier years, all though there
have been two years in the past when it didn't happen until January 31st.

Now if you are up to another challenge. In 1997, I made it a goal to see
100 species in Ohio in every month of the year. April through October are
easy. February, March, and November take some work. January and December
are the toughest.

Now off to see if I can find a Red-headed Woodpecker. It would be
interesting to see what others are missing. I still don't have the geese
(only the Canada). I have never had a January without Snow Geese while
doing this. And I have missed every Merlin I have gone after. As near as I
can tell, The January list for Ohio is over 130 species possible this year.
