I managed to mix some birding in with other stuff going on the last few days and saw the following......on 1/2/11: Summit L. in Akron had only a small open-water hole on the west shore holding Canada geese, mallards, 5 n. shovelers, 1 ruddy duck, and 13 Am. coots.  I didn't get to search the canals around there, which probably had more stuff.  Also a golden-crowned kinglet came by my car there.  In Portage Co., a pond at a reclaimed sand/gravel pit area in Mantua Twp. had 4 mute swans (2 adults, 1 first-winter, 1 older imm.), Canada geese, and 70 mallards.  In Geauga Co., I saw an adult red-shouldered hawk at a deer carcass in Troy Twp., e. bluebird in Auburn Twp., and at the Stafford Rd. bridge at Bridge Creek (this is the LaDue outlet to the upper Cuyahoga R.) were 10 Am. black ducks, mallards, and a hooded merganser.  From there I did some searching in Middlefield Twp. and found 2 light-morph rough-legged hawks along Peters Rd.  Going east next
in Trumbull Co. I spotted a white-throated sparrow at a stop in Farmington Twp., then had a quick look around Mosquito Creek WA.  Along N. Park Ave. south of Rte. 87 were 2 n. harriers, one a male.  At Mosquito L. I didn't see any eagles, just geese and 5 swans I believe were locally-released trumpeters.  Is that correct?  Moving on to 1/3/11, here in NE Mahoning Co. I saw 1 n. mockingbird in eastern Youngstown and 8 e. bluebirds in the southern part of Coitsville Twp.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
