I took a break after lunch to watch the backyard feeders for a few
minutes, and spotted four common redpolls among the regular goldfinches,
titmice, etc. They flew off then came back a few minutes later, then all
the birds got spooked by something and left. They're a first for the year
and for our yard/farm list in general.

Also, while we normally have one or two white-crowned sparrows all winter,
the first white-throated sparrow of the season appeared under the feeders
this morning.

OK ... I just checked the feeders and they're back. Along with a white-
crowned, a white-throated, and an orange male house finch to boot!
