I checked the status of things at Hoover Reservoir this afternoon. The
reservoir is mostly frozen over. The few areas of open water I located were at
Oxbow Road, Baldridge Boat Launch and the spillway below the dam. Results
were mixed.

At Oxbow Road there were several thousand Canada Geese, a few hundred
Mallard, lesser numbers of American Black Duck plus a few Common Goldeneye,
Hooded Merganser, Ruddy Duck and a lone Redhead.

Baldridge Boat Launch had over a thousand Canada Geese, a small group of
white morf Snow Geese, 15 Common Goldeneye, 40+ Northern Shovelers, a few
Ruddy Duck, Mallards, and American Black Duck.

The spillway at the dam had Mallard, American Black Duck, many Northern
Shoveler. Gadwall, Hooded Merganser, American Wigeon and a lone Green-winged
Teal. The creek below had a sole Great Blue Heron, more Northern Shoveler
and a few Hooded Merganser. A Sharp-shinned Hawk landed at the near tree line
and stayed for about 5 minutes before flying into the pine grove.
