Margaret,
I too in my travels yesterday saw black vultures. I saw them just a
few wing beats away from where you did on Route 657 in a field at the
Shipley Pig Farm. As you know, Licking County has Turkey vultures year round
but I've also had Black vultures soaring above my yard in winter one year. A
great place for folks to see Black vultures is among the Turkey vultures at
Denison University.

                                                Happy Birding!

Subject: [Ohio-birds] Black vultures - Licking Co.

Yesterday while returning from our league wrestling tournament in
Centerburg, I saw four black vultures. As usual, the tip-off were the
"white" wing tips. I was able to pull over and view them with binoculars.

They were soaring above the intersection of Lafayette Rd and State Route
657, just south of the intersection of SR 657 and SR 62.

Are black vultures becoming more common, or am I just noticing them more?

Also had a northern flicker at my suet feeder yesterday morning, the first
of 2011.
