Greetings all -
A brief off-topic post to mention a brief "cool" fact.
In the new Crossley ID Guide to Eastern Birds (which I have not seen yet, nor purchased, nor do I have anything to do with the except having been on-location during the next couple of sentences), there are two photo plates that feature shots taken in Ohio. First, the Smith's Longspur page. The background habitat photo and all of the birds but one were photographed in April 2010 on Washburn Road in Wyandot county. Second, the background and bridges on the Peregrine Falcon page feature none other than Cleveland, Ohio. Taken from Abbey Avenue (just under I-90) near the flats.
Of all of the places for Crossley to get photos of Smith's Longspur (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee...) it's pretty darn neat that these were taken in our state, which, for many years, has been considered far out-of-bounds for the species' migratory pathway. Not now...
best of birding-Jen
