Greetings,
It is bitter cold here in Wakeman, Lorain County and surprisingly the feeders are not as full as one would think. Chickadees were the first to arrive but hesitated to go to the feeders. Was it just to cold or the explosive popping sound that was coming from the deck. (contraction/expansion) We still have pine siskins, gold finches and female purple finches on the feeders. Downy, Hairy and Red Bellied Woodpeckers are coming in for wild birdseed mix in the barren yet sunny front yard. Titmice, juncos and nuthatches (WB) continue to frequent the feeder near my office window.

BTW: I'm supplying plenty of fresh water and will put out fresh suet mix today. Thistle, black oiled sunflower and a wild birdseed mix are also provided .

As we prepare for the Bird Count, I wonder if anyone has see the Short Eared Owls that were spotted near Sandy Ridge Reservation recently? If you need snow buntings or horned larks, they are plentiful along Becker Road. Best locations continue to be in the block between Baird Road and Vermilion Road.

Happy Birding.
Dorothy
