I was at Villa Angela and Wildwood State Parks on the eastside of Cleveland today from noon to 3:15pm. Villa Angela has at least 35-40 alder trees mixed in with river birch and some other trees just north of the field which is north of the library. I have been checking these out since December and haven't seen any Redpolls before today. Just as I was walking in and even before I got near the alder trees I was looking at the bird box on the eastside of the woods that sometimes has a squirrel in it. I saw something crawl up the tree branch near the bird box, thought it was a WB Nuthatch, it flew to the crotch of the tree and when I looked saw it was a Redpoll. There were only three COMMON REDPOLLS and they were in the tops of the Alder trees around 1:10pm for about 12 mins until I couldn't see them anymore so I left. I came back at 2:20pm and the three were there again for about 15 mins until a distant noise startled them and they flew west. I stood
right under the trees and they weren't bothered by me. They appeared to be females as they weren't as colorful as some of the ones I saw at Mentor Lagoons in January. I did get a few pictures. I didn't see much else unusual today except I haven't been seeing White-throated Sparrows here this winter and today I saw one across Euclid Creek in Wildwood. It was so windy from the west or northwest today that most of the bird activity was down by Euclid Creek in Wildwood today. Also, saw a White-throated Sparrow at Sims Park in Euclid today on the west end near the apartments.
