Hello all,

Ben Warner kindly tipped me off to a spot along Wilson Rd., about 1 mile
northeast of the intersection of 71 and 36/37 in Delaware. The entrance to
the road is across the street from the Burger King, and there's a giant dirt
mound at the site where the birds hang out. Anyway, Rough-legged Hawks are
regular, and Ben reports seeing Short-eared Owls there at dusk. Today the
ornithology class, Bill Heck, Jed Burtt and I went to see these birds, and
saw the Rough-leggeds. Unexpectedly we saw an adult NORTHERN SHRIKE in the
row of trees in the back of the field with the giant dirt mound. The
ornithology class was ecstatic!!! We also saw thousands of geese migrating
north this morning.

Here on Ohio Wesleyan Campus, there have been 2+ Cackling Geese flying in
the morning and late afternoon, along with at least one Greater
White-fronted Goose, among 1500+ Canadas. 6 Tundra Swans and one male
Northern Pintail were seen on Tuesday. They are always flying north or south
above the Olentangy River, mostly north.

Good birding,
Sean

P.S. Male Common Merganser landed on river last Sunday. Campus bird #206!
