At 1:45PM today, Craig Holt called about a Ross's Goose he was watching in the pasture across from the spillway at Evans Lake. He was unable to post today, and asked me to post it. I thought I did, but I apparently did not. Oops! Late this afternoon, we were finally able to go and see it. What a gorgeous bird. It was in the company of a male Wood Duck and some Canada Geese. At this location in the past, Brant has been found. Evans Lake is a large body of water and still completely frozen over. Out on the ice were 72+ Tundra Swans. Evans Lake spillway is located on North Lima Road, east of South Avenue and I-680, and south of Western Reserve Road. Some highlights on the way home, were 65 more Tundra Swans, and 4 Greater White-fronted Geese, along with a waterfowl extravaganza at Avion Lake on Western Reserve Road just west of The Ohio Turnpike overpass. The day became complete when we went by yesterday's Cackling Goose location. We found yesterday's Cackling Goose standing with 18 Greater White-fronted Geese, across the road from the previously described location . The location is on Calla Road, just west of SR46 near some oil storage tanks. What a great start to 2011 birding!
