Today was beautiful at Big Island - Sunny the majority of the afternoon with
light winds (The weatherpersons this morning were originally predicting
moderate rain showers all afternoon, especially where we were birding -
WRONG!!!:} Our group was able to bird Big Island for approximately 4 hours.
Waterfowl were not overly abundant, but there was a decent variety:
Mallard
Blue Wing Teal
Shovelers
Coot
Pied Billed Grebes
Horned Grebes
Northern Pintail
Lesser Scaup
Ring-Necked Ducks
Canada Geese
Green Wing Teal
Raptors included:
Northern Harriers
American Kestrels
Red-Tail Hawks
Rough-Legged Hawk (Dark Morph)
Bald Eagle - 13 (5 Adult, 8 juvenile)
Bald Eagle Nest - With nesting Bald Eagles
Turkey Vultures
Other Birds:
Eastern Meadowlarks
Horned Larks
Tree Sparrows
Song Sparrows
Red-wing Blackbirds
Great Blue Herons
