With 12-14" of heavy wet snow, you'd think the birds would hunker down
and wait for the melt, but you'd be wrong. We had two pairs of eastern
bluebirds with one male singing. Several flyover flocks of red-winged
blackbirds. One flock of ten settled down and the males were making
quite a ruckus. A Carolina wren likewise was serenading us. About 20
cardinals, and several each of black-capped chickadees, tufted titmice,
white-breasted nuthatches, American goldfinches, song sparrows, and
house sparrows took advantage of the feeders, together with one each of
downy, hairy, and red-bellied woodpeckers. A couple of blue jays joined
the gang as the day progressed. Around 4:30 a Cooper's hawk made a
successful raid, although I missed what she caught. Some American crows
and mourning doves made a visit late in the afternoon.

Not bad for a snowy Friday.
