A female hoary redpoll briefly showed up at my feeders in North Perry this
morning (3/6). The bird was amongst a group of close to 30 common redpolls.
It came to my feeders behind the house and immediately worked its way to
almost directly below my window. As a result, I got some great looks at it,
but no photos. A few times it was close to the house that I could not even
see it. At some point in time when it was that close, it disappeared. The
redpolls were coming and going, but I did not see it leave and did not
relocate it. The bird was a very frosty white overall. The background
color on the back was whitish rather than the buffy of the common redpolls.
The bill was very conical and short giving it the expected pushed in face
look. The rump was white and was unstreaked. The only field mark I did not
see was the undertail coverts.

I have been getting a ton of common redpolls with some flocks numbering 40
or more. I had one greater redpoll (C. flammea rostrata) yesterday. It was
not found today. The greater redpoll is noticeably larger and is heavily
streaked with a larger bill. It appears to me that a lot of the redpolls
that are visiting are just passing by in migration. If the bird returns I
will advise.

The last three days there has been a small movement of song sparrows. I
also had a swamp sparrow yesterday and today. Lots of pine siskins around
also.
