Hello all,

The ornithology class, Jed Burtt, Bill Heck and I had a heck of a morning.
At the first pulloff north of Leonardsburg Rd and Horseshoe Rd. was a
smattering of waterfowl. Highlights:

Snow Goose- 24; 15 adult white phase (including one flyover), 8 adult blue
phase, and 1 imm. Blue phase
Ross's Goose- 3 adult white phase, very small and short-billed,
round-headed, with a small emerald green patch at the base of the bill
Sandhill Crane- 1, to the far left side of the pool of water

Other ducks in the area this morning included Wood Duck, Northern Shoveler,
Green-winged Teal, Blue-winged Teal, Mallard, American Black Duck, Northern
Pintail, American Wigeon, Gadwall, Redhead, Canvasback, Lesser Scaup, and
Hooded Merganser. However, only a small part of the refuge was sampled.

Good birding,

Sean
