Hello All,
Good numbers and variety of waterfowl were found at Killdeer Plains WA
yesterday afternoon at the Harold Roe wetlands and on Pond 27.
The HR wetlands runs all along the east side of CH 308 where scope viewing
(recommended) is best in the afternoon. Pond 27 runs along the north side of CH
68, and there were good numbers of waterfowl in the middle and east sections.
Nineteen species of waterfowl were observed in these combined locations, listed
here from most to least abundant:

- Canada Goose
- Ring-necked Duck
- Mallard Duck
- Northern Pintail
- American Wigeon (most in the middle and east sections of Pond 27)
- GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE  (43 were counted at the HR Wetlands)
- TUNDRA SWAN (over 100 total; 65 in the HR wetlands and 42 at Pond 27)
- Black Duck
- Gadwall
- Hooded Merganser
- Northern Shoverler
- Redhead
- Lesser Scaup
- Green-winged Teal
- Wood Duck
- Canvasback
- Trumpeter Swan (2 in the HR Wetlands)
- CACKLING GOOSE (two were found in the east section of Pond 27)
- EURASIAN WIGEON (one drake, found in the East section of Pond 27)

Killdeer Plains WA is located mostly in Wyandot County, NW of Marion, Ohio. Take
SR 294, which runs W off SR 23, go through the little town of Harpster,
then turn S at the KPWA sign, on CH 115. If you are not familiar with this WA,
follow CR 115 (makes a jog to the W, then back S) to the Headquarters buildings,
on your right, where you can pick up a map of the area. These maps are found at
a kiosk/bulletin board near the porta-jon. The weather forecast looks good
through this weekend. Best of Luck!
