I was unable to relocate the two American White pelicans that were reported yesterday from the Cochran gravel pit near The Plains in Athens county yesterday.  I was there fairly early this morning though and unless anyone has relocated them since then, I think the birds have departed the area.

If you are travelling east on Highway 33 south of Nelsonville, just southeast of the Wayne National Forest Headquarters you will see this body of water on the right hand side . Stop at the office and inquire about the birds and seek permission to drive back the haul road.  If you arrive at the exit to The Plains/ SR 682, you have gone too far.  However, you can take that exit and  get back on 33 west and take a left at the first available crossing of 33 which leads straight into the gravel pit property.
