I went out to check on the pelicans that Mike Hatfield reported last night.
The 5 pelicans were still at the north end of the lake at Buck Creek State
Park. Near the northeast part of the park there is a lane off Grant Road
that leads to the lake. They have put up a gate now so that you can only
drive about 40 yards from the road. You must then walk down to the lake.
There were also a few ducks, gulls, geese, and cormorants visible from this
point. A scope is useful. At other places on the lake there are quite a few
ducks but you would have to check out several vantage points to see where
the best viewing is. Visible from the north end of the beach at very long
distance were 200+ Lesser Scaup, a few Red-breasted Mergansers, and some
Ruddy Ducks.

For anyone interested here are my pelican sightings from Clark County. The
record was in 1989 and they have been recorded in about half the years since
then. I started birding here in 1975.
