Dawn or dusk in a Buckeye wetland...does it get any better? Here is a
chance for Ohio Birders to make a difference and assist with the Ohio
Marshbird Survey! Volunteers are needed to conduct surveys during early
mornings or late evenings in May and June. Survey routes are
predetermined and are located in Ottawa/Lucas Counties, Trumbull County,
Holmes/Wayne Counties, and Wyandot/Marion Counties. These are NOT
necessarily roadside routes and thus some hiking or even "bushwhacking"
is required in some cases. Routes consist of 5 to 10 survey points
typically spaced 400 - 800 meters apart and often cover more than a
single wetland. Surveyors use playback to broadcast calls of target
species (equipment provided) and record marshbirds detected at each
survey point over a 10- or 11-minute interval.

The Ohio Marshbird Survey requires some advanced skills relative to
other volunteer-based surveys. A training workshop will be provided in
mid-April to get volunteers up to speed on protocols, identification,
equipment use, and navigation skills. Survey routes will be conducted
in Ottawa/Lucas Counties, Trumbull County, Holmes/Wayne Counties, and
Wyandot/Marion Counties. If you are interested and would like more
information, please contact Dave Sherman: [log in to unmask]

Thanks for your help!
