Today I checked Evans L. and nearby Pine L. in eastern Mahoning Co.  Combined highlights: ring-necked ducks, lesser scaup, buffleheads, 27 hooded mergansers, 265 red-breasted mergansers, 70 ruddy ducks, 11 c. loons, pied-billed grebes, 25 horned grebes, double-crested cormorants, bald eagle, sharp-shinned hawk, 2 Am. kestrels, 75 Am. coots, and a Bonaparte's gull.  At my Poland Twp. yard (also E Mahoning Co.) I saw FOS chipping sparrow on 3/21 along with a couple lingering Am. tree sparrows; rarely do I get to see these two similar species together, usually there isn't any overlap here.  In Lowellville, the great horned owl is still on the nest with no sign of owlet(s) yet.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
