A different hoary redpoll showed up at my North Perry, Lake County feeders
this morning. This bird is a female, the earlier bird was a male. The bird
showed up at around 8:00 and fed at the thistle feeder behind my house for
about 10 minutes before being scared off by a sharp-shinned hawk that made a
pass through the yard. At this time (8:50), the hoary has not returned.
There are also about 5 common redpolls with this bird.
