The Eared Grebe at C.J. Brown Reservoir (Buck Creek State Park) near Springfield

was still present today 3-28.  I saw it at 11 a.m. fishing in the same area near

the control tower on the dam.  It was still there at 4 p.m. when I looked again.

There must be a lot of small shad schooling near the tower, because it seems to
catch one on most dives.  The American Coots, Horned Grebes and Common Loons all

seem to be catching their share too.  The Bonaparte's Gulls sometimes dive at
the coots and try to steal the shad before they can swallow their catch. They
don't seem to try that with anybody but the coots.

The previously reported pelicans were not visible from that end of the lake
today, but I did not check the islands area at the north end where they were
first spotted.
