Draw by the calm weather and various reports of scoters around the state, I
spent some time this evening birding along the east side of Griggs and
O'Shaughnessy reservoirs. Some highlights:

Griggs held a few Tree Swallows above the dam, two different E. Phoebes
foraging in the trees along shore, 12+ boats(!) but otherwise nothing out of
the ordinary.

Visible from "Area C" off of Riverside, O'Shaughnessy still has probably
100+ Turkey Vultures roosting in the conifers at the SW corner of the
reservoir, along with a handful of Great Blue Herons. Further north at the
pullout just north of Rutherford Rd. (area I? J?), I had 1 GREAT EGRET
flying high over the reservoir headed north. This was around 7:40pm. From
here I could also hear 2 Great Horned Owls counter calling across the
reservoir just south of the power lines, and I had some nice (but distant)
looks at a breeding plumage Common Loon and a dozen or so Bufflehead to the
north, about half way to the marina.

Not too many birds, but a great evening to be out scanning the water!

Good birding,
Paul Hurtado
