I had the rainy afternoon to test if rain holds back migrating ducks. Several stops along Alum Creek Lake (north of Columbus) suggested the negative answer. Normally this is a fairly good waterfowl spot, but today I struggled to find a few flocks. Some usually reliable spots, like the Cheshire boat ramp and New Galena, were empty. 'Highlights', such as they were, included a mixed flock of 120 Lesser scaup & 20 Redhead off Hollenback marina, some 20 Red-br. Mergansers off the Cheshire causeway, and pairs of Canada Geese everywhere. Ice might hold back ducks, but rain may actually signal them to get going!
