Today, about noon, we located a Cackling Goose with a large gathering of Canada Geese in a corn stubble field. The location was on Calla Road about halfway between SR46 and Washingtonville Road. The group were close to the northside of the road, opposite an oil storage tank; there is a drive by the tank to pull into. Some other morning highlights were a female Long-tailed Duck, in Avion Lake behind the Drake's Landing Restaurant on Western Reserve Road. This location is just west of the Ohio Turnpike overpass. At this location and other nearby open water areas were unbelievable numbers of 19 species of waterfowl. 300+Northern Pintail, 150+ Canvasback, 200+ Redhead, and 62+ Tundra Swans just to name a few. Also seen were 2 Tree Swallows and 85+ Rusty Blackbirds. A flooded field, just to the south, at the corner of Lynn and Bassinger Roads, is presently also a hotspot for waterfowl.
