Greenlawn was quiet this afternoon from 2-4pm. What a difference a week makes. I still saw quite a few species (with effort), but numbers were down drastically. Only one Fox Sparrow, one Brown Thrasher, three Hermit Thrushes, two Golden-crowned Kinglets, and one Purple Finch. But it was a beautiful day to be outside.

There is a Canada Goose nesting on the tiny island in the middle of the pit's pond (barely room for her--a good rain and she's outta there). Anyway, I watched as she kept grabbing a small branch from between two rocks and tried to put it into her nest. But the branch must have been attached to something below the rocks, because it kept springing back when she would open her mouth. Quite entertaining. When I finally walked away she was still at it. My brother used to say, "After all, it's just a bird brain."
