Tonight about 7PM, we found a Willet in the traditional flooded field on Bandy Road, along with 92+ Lesser Yellowlegs and 56+ Greater Yellowlegs. The Willet, nearly in breeding plumage, was easy to locate, it was constantly calling! Also in the field were 5 Pectoral Sandpipers, 3 Solitary Sandpipers, 14+ pair of Blue-winged Teal, and 6+ male Wood Ducks. In the northeast corner of this field in the treeline, are at least 46 occupied Great Blue Heron nests located over the Mahoning River. A pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers were on the opposite side of the road. Just down the road to the south, near the intersection of Hartley and Bandy Roads, is a guaranteed Horned Lark location, with 6 seen tonight. Another highlight was hearing 2 Sandhill Cranes calling in a field to the west. This location is only four miles due north of where 2 baby Sandhills were born last year. The Bandy Road site is in extreme northwest Columbiana County, with the flooded field being 1/2 mile south of US62 on the east side of the road.
