The weather has been bringing migrants and new arrivals to South Bass
Island. Large mixed flocks of Common Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds,
European Starlings have been moving around the island the last two days.

Last night found the following in the Pond near .
Belted Kingfisher
Great Egret
Great Blue Heron-4

At Scheeff East Point Nature Preserve:
Ring-necked Duck xxx
Scaup sp. xxxx
Redhead xxx
Canvasback x
Bufflehead xxx
Common Goldeneye xx
Mallard xx
Canada Geese x
Red-breasted Merganser xx
Killdeer x
Bonaparte's Gull x
Ring-billed Gull xx
Herring Gull xx
Great Black-backed Gull x

There were about 20 Turkey Vultures circling down to roost near my home just
before dark.

This morning I drove to the South Bass Island Lighthouse and saw flocks of
30 American Robins flying to the south followed by a flock of mixed Common
Grackles and Red-winged Black birds flying south.
In the field before the Lighthouse:
Red-winged Blackbirds
Common Grackles
Brown-headed Cowbirds
Dark-eyed Junco
Chipping Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Savannah Sparrow
Morning Doves
Thought I heard an Eastern Meadowlark but could not locate it. We usually
only get them during migration.
