Just got a call from Brad Sparks, who spooked an American bittern by
driving into the Wright Rd. parking lot at Pickerington Ponds; he later
relocated it skulking in the cattails across the pond at the Bowen Rd
parking lot, south of Wright. We have had two other county reports of
this species this spring, both from the new Darby Creek wetlands. It has
been a long time since bitterns nested here, but the new habitat,
especially some cattails, may welcome them again.
