Greetings all -
A quick lunch break "loop" through part of Cleveland Metroparks Brecksville Reservation brought me to stop at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course for a few minutes of scanning the Cuyahoga Valley horizon. With semi-warm temps and light NW winds, I certainly wasn't expecting a movement of birds. Yet, my mind was blown to have a subadult GOLDEN EAGLE cruise directly overhead, heading hard east in a set glide. This individual showed a paler base to the tail and dusky pale central patches to the underwings, though neither of the marks were sharply contrasting as in immature birds (that show glaring white). The massive build of the bird was just stunning. Few other raptors were moving. Many local Red-tails and vultures were aloft. Other actual migrant raptors included: a handful of vultures, a Sharp-shin, Cooper's, Red-shoulder, and a couple of Red-tails.
Because of the steadily warming morning and afternoon, NE OH lakefront birders may see a trickle of raptors moving east. It seems that the western component to the winds are aiding birds in a steady heading.
On a side note, fide Dwight and Ann Chasar, at least three Yellow-throated Warblers and a few Blue-gray Gnatcatchers have returned to Brecksville Reservation/CVNP Station Road, off of Riverview in Brecksville.
