--------- JOIN THE CAMPAIGN: “INVITE SOMEONE NEW TO COME WITH YOU!” ---------- Here’s a great way to multiply the positive effects of any bird conservation work you are doing: invite someone new to join you! If we want more people involved in bird conservation and increased diversity among the people involved, we need to involve people who have not yet participated in bird-related activities at a variety of levels that may spark their interest. One way to get people involved in an activity is to invite them to join you. Consider this YOUR INVITATION to invite others to invite others to come along. The theme for International Migratory Bird Day this year is “Go WILD, Go Birding!” Many people have never been birding; they have never been specifically invited. Next time you go birding, invite someone new to come with you! Going to an International Migratory Bird Day celebration in May? Invite someone new to come too! You can save fuel by carpooling, educate more people about the issues facing migratory birds, contribute to the success of IMBD celebrations by increasing participation, eventually increase the pool of voters interested in conservation, have fun and feel good about sharing the fun, and you may make new friends as well. If you are organizing an International Migratory Bird Day event, promote the idea of inviting someone new to come too! If you encourage everyone who is already planning to attend to bring someone new with them, you can increase attendance. Use listservs, newsletters, newspaper announcements, radio spots, online and on-site postings, whatever media is available to pass on the invitation to invite someone new. Want to know more about International Migratory Bird Day? Go to www.birdday.org. Check the map to find out where Bird Day celebrations are being planned, or, if you’re organizing one, to register it on the map so others can find it. Find free materials, activities, and many excellent resources for bird education and bird events. Note the “Connecting Cultures” section for tips for reaching diverse audiences. Whether you are celebrating birds as an individual or an organization, extend a personal invitation to someone new to join you when you go birding, attend a bird education session, participate in a celebration of International Migratory Bird Day, or engage in a conservation project. INVITE SOMEONE NEW TO COME WITH YOU!! Please repost, resend, put it on your listserv, share this message! In the spirit of inclusion, Susan Gilchrist, Berea, Ohio
