Thursday about 11:45 a.m., I saw and photographed a Black-necked Stilt in a flooded field along State Rte. 2 near Benton-Carroll Road. For those who are not familiar with the area, this is less than a mile east of Magee Marsh. There are flooded fields on both sides of Benton-Carroll Road; the bird was in the area just east of the group of buildings on the corner of Rte. 2 and Benton-Carroll, and could be seen from the highway. Please note that Rte. 2 is a heavily-trafficked road and is only two lanes wide at this location. The Ottawa Co. sheriff's department strongly discourages stopping or parking on the shoulder, so be cautious and alert while searching for this great bird.
