Hello Ohio Birders,

At Columbus Audubon's Calamus Swamp* (Pickaway Co.) this morning around 10:30 am I flushed an American Bittern and shared the boardwalk with a Virginia Rail that let me walk within 6 feet. A Baltimore Oriole was singing at Canal Park* (west bank of the Scioto near Circleville) and I had Savannah and Ipswich Sparrows in the vicinity of Charlie's Pond*.

The sun was shining on Circleville when I left the area. There is high water everywhere and parts of both Canal Rd. and Island Rd. are submerged (and closed). I suspect that off-road parking could be adventurous in some spots.

Happy birding,

Dave Horn
Columbus

*Directions to Calamus Swamp are on the Columbus Audubon website: http://www.columbusaudubon.org Canal Park is on Canal Rd. (first road left off US 22 after crossing Scioto River west of Circleville). Charlie's Pond ("Hitler Pond" on some maps) area is reached via Radcliff Rd. west off US 23 south of Circleville (and south of the DuPont plant).
