Today's Gates Mills Spring Audubon walkers 
made our first trip to Frohring Meadows in 
western Geauga County.
 
despite the rainy weather the group (17)
enjoyed their visit to Frohring this 
morning. 
here is a list of what we saw/heard
starting around 7:30 w/50* weather
w/light winds and pretty constant drizzle - 
we ended around 10:15
 
 
started walking north to the west 
around the swampy area
and after some left @ 9:30-ish
we continued on the south trail around 
toward the road and back to the parking lot.
 
Canada Geese - 9
Wood Duck - 4
Mallard - 7
Great Blue Heron - 3
Killdeer - 4
Lesser Yellowlegs - 1
Wilson's Snipe - 10
Ring-billed Gull - 4
Mourning Dove - 4
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1
Blue Jay - 2
American Crow - 4
Tree Swallows - 50+
Black-capped Chickadees - 2
Tufted Titmouses - 2
Eastern Bluebirds - 8
American Robin - 20
Chipping Sparrows - 4
Savannah Sparrows - 15 (under estimate)
Song Sparrow - 8
Northern Cardinal - 2
Red-winged Blackbirds - 30+
Eastern Meadowlark - 1
Brown-headed Cowbirds - 18
American Goldfinches - 6
European Starling - 1
Unknown Hawk flying to southeast - 1
 
We looked and looked for the Sora and
the Virginia Rail to no avail.
we had great looks at the Snipe and they
would fly loops every 10-15 minutes only
to return. they did take off to the east
around 9:30 and were not seen again.
