Hello all,

This morning along County Rd 65/County Home Rd, Jed Burtt spotted a
shorebird flying in the cornfield on the north side of the road, just west
of the large bend in the road. We almost assumed it was just a Killdeer
since it was raining and we were driving at 50 mph. However, I was unsure
because it had overall gray/white plumage. Then, it turned in flight and I
saw a pair of black lines on the sides of its body, just at the base of the
wings. Immediately I knew it was a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and I pulled over
so the class and Bill Heck could get a look.

Sorry I did not assemble the Rare Bird Alert for this week. I am currently
in the last week of class with final exams around the corner. Furthermore,
I'll be in South and Central America for part of the summer, and I will not
be able to continue as the editor for the Rare Bird Alert. We'll need to
find a new editor.

Good birding,
Sean
