I realize it has been several years since I've posted anything on the
Ohio listserv, mostly because I don't feel I have anything of great
interest to post about. I've never signed up for the onslaught of
emails, I just check the website and pick out any interesting posts
to read. Believe me, there are many that area ignored, for many
reasons. For one, I would agree with John. Unless I'm planning a
trip out of NW OH, then I don't really care much what's being
reported in the 3 Cs, or parts unknown (not recognizing many of the
places mentioned is another reason those posts don't get read). I
would agree there is a lot of unnecessary posts (and I just don't
read those), but I would also agree there should be a time and place
for all to post what they want to post. I would 2nd (or 3rd) the
suggestion of a separate OH list along the lines of what Michigan
does. Even rarebird.org developed a "bird chat" forum in order to
separate the "rare" from the "every day" sightings. As more people
become involved in birding, reporting must evolve to support the
increasing number of reports. The list adminstrator(s) should
definitely give a 2nd list some serious thought.
