Amazing day at CRP for me. Despite the fact I found myself in an off limits
area. The usual suspects were out hand feeding along the trail. Chickadee,
cardinal, titmouse were all present. Another birder pointed out what
appeared to be a fox sparrow, but I was bookless and unsure. Then in the
back ridge of this swampy area were the first two Woodcocks of the day.
Moving out into the field area the Kestrels were attacking a red tail from
place to place until a 2nd red tail showed. Killdeer, red wings, Wilsons
snipe and American woodcocks all along the muddy area of the bogs. There
were over 15 GBH's flying back to the light plant area. The Meadowlarks were
everywhere and singing up a storm. I am unsure why the area was closed by
the health district but I found the signs on my way out.
Enjoy, Spring is coming.
