Dear Member of OOS and Ohio's Birding Community,
Spring isn't over yet! Warblers are singing, breeding, and waiting for YOU at Shawnee State Park
the weekend of June 3-5. Register for the Seventh Annual OOS Conference as we partner with the
Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II during their final season of field work: http://www.ohiobirds.org/
Great fun with birding friends is promised as we search for 18 species of singing warblers on
territory in southwest Ohio. YOUR help is requested to document their breeding status in some of
the loveliest landscape in Ohio!
This weekend is a way to put your late spring birding to good use! Atlasing is similar to a
Christmas Bird Count (birders love helping with their local CBC!) but the weather is much better!
We'll atlas in small groups but will look at plants and butterflies, too. We'll keep our eyes open for
Henslow's Sparrow, Blue Grosbeak, and Chuck-will's-widow as we bird in a great place and variety
of habitats.
As an added BONUS: Ted Floyd, Editor of Birding, the flagship magazine of the American Birding
Association, is our special guest speaker on Saturday for a workshop and a lecture. During "Bare-
naked Birding: Clothing Optional, Binoculars Prohibited", an afternoon workshop, we'll look focus
on observing breeding bird behavior without the use of optics. WARNING: Ted's evening lecture,
"Birding at Night: The Final Frontier" may result in you becoming increasingly sleep-deprived and
unable to stay indoors during the nighttime hours!
Hope you will join OOS and OBBA II at Shawnee State Park the weekend of June 3-5 to "give back"
to Ohio's birds while atlasing vital blocks!
Thanks for being part of Ohio's birding network!

Ann Oliver
Editor, The Cerulean Newsletter (quarterly publication of OOS)
