The dumpster diving Black-crowned Night Herons that were reported last spring behind the Marathon station on SR2, have apparently returned. They were not seen during the past two weekends, but Kani Fenstermaker reports that she had three at the dumpster on Tuesday afternoon about 4PM and eight near the dumpster last night about 8:30PM. One of the birds reportedly has unusually red legs. The blue dumpster is located at a fish cleaning station behind and north of the Marathon/Wild Wings on the northeast corner of SR2 and Russell Road, about three miles east of Black Swamp Bird Observatory. The dumpster is usually filled with tasty fish scraps. Check this location different times of the day and the woodlot to the northeast. The Night Herons, along with Great Blue Herons, and other bird species, can be found sitting on the dumpster.
