Following up a recent report from Fernald Preserve, I birded the biowetland and briefly the lodge pond today 5/20 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The two WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS reported yesterday were still present at the biowetlands today. They are associating with Semipalmated Sandpipers. There were four of the latter, along with four Least Sandpipers, five Semipalmated Plovers, one Lesser Yellowlegs, two Killdeer and one Spotted Sandpiper at the biowetland. I also was able to scope a Dickcissel singing just beyond the biowetland and tallied seven Bank Swallows between the biowetland and the lodge pond. I was able to find one of the two BLUE GROSBEAKS at the viewing platform at the lodge pond. This one was a moulting male which I assumed to be an after hatch-year male. A pair of Cedar Waxwings landed in the pines adjacent to the lodge pond parking area. In all, I tallied 44 species in one hour.
