Spent a couple hrs at the wetlands today. Refound the male Wilson's
Phalarope. Got decent looks before it flew further away & out of
sight. Watched 2 Caspian Terns sitting with a Ring-billed Gull on the
far side of the field. While talking with Janet a mixed flock of 10
Forster's & Common Terns flew in. Only 2 Forster's stayed while the
rest of the group quickly moved on. Had to walk out the bike path for
better views but helped me to find more shorebirds. 2 new species I
found 1 STILT SANDPIPER with the Yellowlegs popping in and out of the
grass. 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper also present with 8 Least Sandpipers.
Other species still present: Semipalmated Plover, Least, Solitary,
Spotted, Pectoral, & both Dowitcher Sp. Some viewing was better from
Seward Rd. Drive further on union centre blvd past firebird ln and
turn right on Seward rd. Just before the railroad tracks on the right
there is a pulloff for the bike trail. Also notable 1 Ring-necked
Duck.
