Julie Karlson, Larry Jeanblanc, and I returned to Shelby County this evening
to look for the Cassin's Sparrow that Larry and Doug heard on Sunday. We
arrived at a little after 6:00 and it was fairly quiet. After a while we saw
a bird fly into a scrubby dead tree on the east side of Lindsey Road at the
end of Kaser Road. It appeared to be a Cassin's Sparrow. We remained until
just after 8:00 and saw the bird several times in that same tree. A Savannah
Sparrow also used that tree and sang often but the Cassin's Sparrow did not
sing while we were there. We listened to and watched Grasshopper and Vesper
Sparrows also. I have posted some pictures of the bird at
www.clarkcountyohioaudubon.org . I hope the pictures are good enough to
identify the bird.
