Today, Paula and I conducted the 14th June census. Weather was beautiful.
Started out a little foggy, partly cloudy, east winds 5-8 mph. and temp 67
F. The June average number of species observed on the census is 61 and 2911
individuals. Today we had 65 species and 2578 individuals. The June
average is 61 species and 2888 individuals so it was an average count.
Bonaparte's Gull and Veery were observed for only the second time on a June
census. The Bonaparte's was an adult bird in breeding plumage. It was
observed at the same spot as the May bird, so may be an injured bird. Also
of note were the 102 Cedar waxwings. It appears some are still migrating
north. The island's Bald Eagle nest has two health young still sitting in
it.
