I was at Conneaut harbor from 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM yesterday.  The weather kept beach goers away until afternoon, and even then not many showed up.  I ended up with 13 species of shorebirds.  Most moved through in the morning; only a few were present when I arrived.  Some migrant puddle ducks joined the local mallards.  The day's highlights: 2 wood ducks, blue-winged teal, 2 green-winged teal, 8 bald eagles, 2 black-bellied plovers, 2 semipalmated plovers, 11 AM. AVOCETS, spotted sandpiper, greater yellowlegs, WILLET, 6 lesser yellowlegs, 2 sanderlings, 6 semipalmated sandpipers, 13 least sandpipers, pectoral sandpiper, 6 short-billed dowitchers (first juvs.), a very fresh juv. Bonaparte's gull, 4 Caspian terns, 3 common terns, belted kingfisher, and purple martin.  About the avocets--1 juv. was there from daybreak on, probably the one first seen Sunday; 5 adults (and the willet) arrived around 11:00 AM; 5 more (1 ad. and 4 juvs.) joined them in the
afternoon.  Add these 11 to the 13 at Lorain yesterday and you get a pretty impressive 24 at these two L. Erie sites!  On the way home on State Rte. 7 in Ashtabula Co. were Am. kestrels at 3 places, a couple e. kingbirds, many barn swallows, and e. bluebirds.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
