I biked around this sprawling MetroPark in south Columbus checking water levels in ponds and hunting for late nesters and early migrants. Water levels are still quite high here, even in the shallow borrow pits along I-270, so shorebirds were absent and herons were low. The only late nesters appeared to be House Wrens, Field Sparrows, Indigo Buntings, and Goldfinches, all rather typical late or 2nd nesters. Migrants were subtle at best, but did include:

Black-billed Cuckoo - a bird was foraging along the Groveport Blacklick Bikepath, where they don't nest ('tho it is perfect habitat).

Hummingbirds - scattered individuals were much more noticeable than prior months, with many foraging and fighting around flower patches.

E.Wood Pewees - still in increased numbers, presumably augmented by an influx of migrants.

E.Kingbirds - 3 along the Groveport Blacklick bikepath were actually rather late for this species.

Vireos - Red-eyed were still singing at several locations, especially around the Confluence area, but a White-eyed calling there around Turtle Pond was a wanderer or early migrant.

Swallows - no big flocks, but Barns and Rough-wings were at many locations

Bobolinks - a flock of 32 birds flew up out of the Hendron Rd prairie restoration early in the morning. These are often early migrants here.

Orioles - calling males were at several locations along the trail away from nesting areas.
