I have been doing a bird count at the Medina County Park on west side of
Chippewa Lake once or twice a week for a little over a year. The mix of
habitat (woods, fields, lake) provides a mix of birds and the small swampy
woodlot next to the lake is a nice warbler trap. Today I found a Blackpoll
Warbler there. Two Caspian Terns were fishing in the lake. Ring-billed Gulls
have returned there today after several weeks absence. It is an interesting
place to see the changing seasons and to get a sense of the migration
patterns in Ohio. A Red-tailed Hawk was hunting at one end of the woods and
a Cooper's Hawk was at the other end. A Pileated Woodpecker flew in today --
I think I've seen it there only one other time. All in all a nice bird walk
this morning.
