From dawn to 9:30 AM at Conneaut today---puddle ducks included 1 Am. wigeon, 20+ blue-winged teal, 8 n. shovelers, and 2 green-winged teal; shorebirds moved mostly in the first hour with 4 ad. black-bellied plovers, 4 semipalmated plovers, the continuing Am. avocet, 3 greater yellowlegs, 3 ruddy turnstones, 25+ sanderlings, 3 semipalmated sandpipers, and 2 least sandpipers. Still around: green heron, black-crowned night-heron, turkey vultures, bald eagles, 5 Caspian terns, Forster's tern, and belted kingfisher. Water level up a little from yesterday. Obviously much cooler temps and wind in your face..............yesterday 9/4 Conneaut highlights: 2 wood ducks, 2 flyby flocks of mallards (not locals) ~50 total, 15 blue-winged teal, green-winged teal, pied-billed grebe, 2 sora, 1 black-bellied plover, 2 Am. golden-plovers, 19 semipalmated plovers, 1 killdeer, Am. avocet, 4 greater yellowlegs, 4 lesser yellowlegs, 6 ruddy turnstones, 6 sanderlings, 10
semipalmated sandpipers, 5 least sandpipers, 1 Baird's sandpiper, 2 pectoral sandpipers, 1 stilt sandpiper, 1 Bonaparte's gull, 6 Forster's terns, and a few purple martins and barn swallows..........there are mudflats now at West Branch SP in Portage Co. at the usual spot State Rte. 14 & Knapp Rd. Seen there on 9/3 were great blue herons, semipalmated plover, killdeers, spotted sandpiper, 2 solitary sandpipers, least sandpiper, 3 pectoral sandpipers, and belted kingfisher. During the afternoon on 9/2 four c. nighthawks passed over our yard in Mahoning Co. Craig Holt, Lowellville
